We read the reviews on this pub/restaurant and it sounded exactly what we love and it was. Lovely welcome from staff, who couldn't have been friendlier . We went for lunch on a rainy Monday and the lady behind the bar seated us near a radiator as I'd said I couldn't believe how cold I was. I had lovely sweet scallops with garlic butter and bacon, served with garlic bread - it was all lovely and lots of thought had been put in the cooking and presentation. I then had lobster and salad, the lobster was cooked with saffron and thyme and had a wonderful smokey taste and the salad was a riot of freshness and colour and was served with a lovely dressing. My husband had grilled sardines then Bouillabaise - all brilliantly cooked and presented. We would definitely come back here, one of the best meals we ate all week on holiday in Lyme.

The Anchor is under new management and it is now well worth a visit. The food is imaginative and 'scrummy'. Every meal has been faultless - not over priced and good value for money. All the staff are friendly and helpful, and you feel that the enjoyment of your visit is important to them. Having visited several times for separate occasions from the formal meal to a sandwhich, it has been most enjoyable.

What a location to start with - a friendly owner who was happy to see you. The seafood on the menu was huge ..... Scallops were cooked to perfection, eating in a pleasant environment with lots of locals eating there also. The bedroom was one of the cleanest rooms I have stayed in (apart from mine at home). It was spotlessly clean, the shower room was new with a power shower that worked. The bed (double) was so comfortable, I did not want to get of in the morning. Glad I did though as breakfast was servered by the owner and was just a good as the food the night before - salmon & scrambled eggs LOVELY. Good parking. Great place to explore the Jurassic coast line. Thank you The Anchor Inn. AwayalotBoy. May 2012

Best fish in the UK. We live in Manchester and go to the Anchor every year (beats Manchester fish restaurants every time, plus anything we've had in France). They keep it simple. As Rick Stein says, it takes guts to do that. Try the scallops with mushroom sauce or order the superb Dover sole when it's available. Going back this spring - can't wait. Linda S, Manchester. What People are Saying about Us

We stopped in this pub on our way back from West Bay on Easter Monday, and were really impressed. From the start when the lady was so welcoming to the very attractive and extensive menu of fish and shellfish. We had a wonderful lunch in a very cosy and warm atmosphere. I would go again and definitely recommend this place to others. Pascale Beck April 2017

Spent two nights and only wish we were not being entertained elsewhere and could have made better use of the tempting food on offer. However, breakfast was great and so were the small dishes we ate on Sunday evening. The bed was amazing and everything spotless. The welcome could not have been better and Andrea was the perfect hostess, even remembering that I preferred apple juice at breakfast on the second day. Highly recommended. Mary Berg March 2017

Have been to this pub with friends who live in the village a few times. Staff are great and food fantastic. Will be going again in the New Year. Stephen Hilton October2016

Met up with old friends yesterday who are great fish eaters - the 4 of us were very happily impressed with super food, excellent service and lovely atmosphere. Only problem was choosing from the large tempting menu! Thoroughly recommended. Rosie Mortimer August 2016

Went to the Ancher over 3 days and had honeycomb ice cream Lovely! The other night I had nothing because I was stuffed! The OTHER night I had apricot and peach crumble with custard. LOVE AT 1ST SIGHT! Thank you Anchor! We're coming back! Ellie Evans August 2016

Just spent 2 nights at the wonderful Anchor Inn at Burton Bradstock and I can thoroughly recommend this delightful establishment to anyone who thinks of staying here. Jan looked after us at the bar on our arrival and the lunch was excellent – very friendly staff also. The room was large, lovely and clean and better than many hotels that I have been to over the years. I would recommend you book a table for dinner as this Inn gets a lot of locals and visitors arrive for the outstanding choice of seafood and steaks on offer. Andrea (The Manager) is lovely also and cooks a fantastic Full English breakfast. Steph my partner drinks Earl Grey Tea and Andrea kindly popped some tea bags up in the room for her. We will most definitely be coming back again – the rooms are very reasonable and Burton Bradstock !! Well – this village is what every visitor (I am Maltese) believes an English Village looks like – is a wonderful place to stay. If you go – please Visit Hive beach – it’s so beautiful and calming – I am seriously thinking of Dorset as my place to retire to. Mike Hayes and Steph Turner, Southampton, June 2016

Just returned from a lunch at The Anchor. Got to say staff were friendly and the fish for lunch was excellent. Must come again! Anna, March 2016

We stayed on 1st and 2nd Feb 2016 in Abbotsbury and were recommended to The Anchor for the seafood. We popped in at lunchtime and booked a table for the evening. Very friendly staff behind the bar and very welcoming. The scallop starter was beautiful and my trio of fish that followed was almost too much for me but I did manage to eat it all, but had to leave some of the veg. I was stuffed. My wife had the ham hock terrine and the homemade steak pie. That was delicious and would have fed two people. A great meal at a reasonable price. The pub was full of people eating on a Tuesday evening. It was difficult to choose what to have from the huge menu. What a fantastic pub, heartily recommended and we will return. Thank you to all the staff. Richard Johnson, Feb 2016

Having been told how great your food and welcome is by a friend, I was not to be disappointed! I reserved a 'dog friendly' table and my lovely greyhound and I could not have been made to feel more welcome. The warmth of the staff clearly spilled over to their guests, as the conversation between tables was free flowing and the atmosphere every bit as enjoyable as the delicious food. Thank you! Anna, September 2015

A truly great Sunday lunch in a lovely country pub. Thank you to all the courteous and friendly staff, we will be back. Bob Wiltshire, July 2015

Fantastic lunch Fish Trio combo. Lovely to see Andy - always bright and cheerful. The best sea food restuarant around. Just wish we could visit more often. Thank you. Pam and Graham, February 2015

The best meal out my wife and I have had for years. Thank you. We will definitely come again. Patrick Robinson, February 2015

Thank you again to you all for a wonderful, relaxing few days in Burton Bradstock. Food, accommodation, friendliness - excellent all round. See you very soon. Eric and Ann, July 2014

What a lovely friendly pub. The staff are friendly, helpful, welcoming and very happy people. I have never been in a pub full of such jolly staff before. I wish I lived near this pub as I would visit often for their banter and charm and of course the fresh tasting food. The food was just amazing. So fresh and the fish I had was filleted so well I had no bones at all. Every bite of the trio of fish I had just melted in my mouth. I would recommend this place to anyone that loves fish or local meat produce. If I am in the area again, 100% I would book to eat there again. I do recommend booking as I went on a Sunday night and Monday night which I booked in advanced and on both evenings it got packed around 7pm. Thank you for making my meal time amazing. We have spent an excellent weekend staying in the Anchor. The accommodation was fantastic. Andrea and the rest of the staff were very welcoming. We can not recommend the food in the restaurant enough. Alison & Steven J, Apr 2014

Absolutely first class food, surroundings, choice and service! After experiencing a very poor dinner at River Cottage on the Friday this was a fantastic comparison, excellent choice of food, especially fish, very prompt and knowledgeable staff, great service, not rushed or ignored, good quality, tasty food, nice relaxing venue. Will definitely recommend to people visiting the area, and we will return! Tamby Burton, Feb 2014

The Anchor Inn was recommended to me and what a wonderful weekend we had. The staff were lovely and welcoming. Andrea looked after us so well. The food was out of this world, can't wait to go back. Maria Hogg, Jan 2014

We recently stayed at the Anchor Inn and it was the highlight of our 12 days in the south of England. Andrea and Michael and the rest of the staff were wonderful, hospitality very friendly, lots of laughs and the food was fabulous. Burton Bradstock is a beautifully preserved village, thatched cottages and lovely little lanes in which to wander. We will certainly go back it is a beautiful part of England. Thank you all, we are still talking about our stay at the Anchor Inn.
